An open letter from our fellow YVH member, Lesley Hunt:
I have worked for several years to help other horse rescue volunteers like me provide equine foster care and adoption homes. Recently I became president of H.E.R.O, Inc., which stands for Horse Education Rescue Organization, a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization. Almost every day I get calls about horses and/or donkeys that need to be rescued. Of course, the members of H.E.R.O. cannot take them all. I am hoping that you might be able to help me in finding foster/adoption homes for the ones we have rehabilitated. Perhaps you, or someone you know, would be interested in fostering an equine. Expenses are tax deductible, to the extent of the law, because we are a 501 (C)(3). Please go to our website, www.heroequinerescue.org and view the available horses. Then call the number on the site or call me at 336-816-1817 so we can pursue the possibilities. Thank you for caring,
Sincerely,
Lesley Hunt

YVH’s button, donated to the MFHA as part of the 2007 Centennial Celebration, enjoys a prominent position in a “Memory Mirror,” created by artist Julie Honsinger.
The piece includes buttons from 155 recognized and registered hunts, which are arranged alphabetically in two rows — the outer perimeter of the piece and the inner perimeter of the mirror itself. Because YVH is the last donor hunt in the alphabet, our button is one position left of center in the inner row, clearly visible in the photo below:mirrordetail
The Memory Mirror is part of the 2007 Art Tour coordinated by the MFHA and Cross Gate Gallery. It measures 24″ X 47″ X 5″ and weighs 45 pounds.mfha
The history of Yadkin Valley Hounds 1975-2007 is included in the Centennial Celebration book published by MFHA and is finally available for purchase next month.
YVH also has one of the best videos included in the companion Centennial DVD. Our video was produced during the 2003-04 hunt season by members Will and Deni McIntyre and edited for submission to MFHA by Evie Good’s son Fletch. The DVD is also available for purchase from MFHA separately or with the book.

Yadkinvalleyhounds has gotten on the list of Tagged.com and as a result, you may receive an email that says either “Evie has sent you photos on Tagged” or “________ has sent you photos on Tagged”. This is not true. This is spam from a social network that misleads you into joining a web site that will generate a lot of commercial emails to you.
I recommend you delete this email. Do not click on the YES or NO box, even though it warns that “you must click on one of the boxes.”

If not for the intervention of Marylou Whitney, Rachel Alexandra’s entry in tomorrow’s Preakness Stakes would have been a study in unsportsmanlike conduct. Instead, it is an illuminating lesson in grace and generosity. Continue Reading »

News Source: Rick Reilly/Life of Reilly/sports.espn.go.com/espnmag:
If you love to see a strong female take on the boys, if you think fillies should be given every chance to compete with studs, if you despise sleazy efforts by rich men to keep girls off the field, we have a heroine for you.
Her name is Rachel Alexandra and she’s beautiful, fast and young. Oh, and she’s a racehorse.
In fact, she’s the fastest racehorse in the world. You can see her run in Saturday’s Preakness, but only thanks to a last-second triumph of brains over bullies.
